Hi, I’m Linda V. Hubbard, a local Benicia resident and fiber artist. My background includes music study in Europe as a teenager, a degree in art (ceramics) and a career in sales (real estate and finance and IT recruiting). Briefly, I began my fascination with Fiber Art in the mid-80’s by, on a whim, making a small, tied quilt.

Despite knowing nothing about the process and having no family quilting tradition I found myself “hooked”. I had sewn clothes a bit in my younger years (and loved fabric) and found that I could combine original design and color and create intriguing dimension through the quilting process in ways that were totally new and exciting to me. I kept that interest dormant until the early ‘90’s whereupon I launched into traditional quilting in a serious way and discovered that there was a whole array of “non-traditional” techniques utilized by contemporary “fiber artists” that amazed me. These artworks were not your grandmothers’ quilts anymore. My focus since then has been to “introduce” the art-lover to contemporary fiber art by creating artwork using many, often surprising, techniques and experimenting with original design concepts, mixed-media and innovative construction techniques, surface treatments and embellishments. I am an Arts Benicia member, and in the last year, have had my work shown in their juried exhibits “Mapping as a Source” and “Gems IV” and was invited to be the featured 3D artist (for my folded fabric boxes) in Blackhawk Gallery’s “Impulse” exhibit.
